Jackson Leads Balanced Chargers to Win in Conference Opener

Freshman forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) finished a rebound shy of a double-double as the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team opened its Arrowhead Conference schedule with a 56-47 victory at Kishwaukee on Thursday.
Jackson finished with team highs of 12 points and nine rebounds (tying her season high) to lead the Chargers (7-11, 1-0), who saw all 10 players record at least one field goal. Jackson, who scored all of her points in the first half, shot 5 of 11 from the floor and scored in double figures for the third straight game.
Danayzia Stuckey (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) scored all nine of her points in the second half, and Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) and Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) each added eight. Whitford also grabbed five rebounds.
Sophomore guard Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) hauled in five boards while also leading the Chargers with five steals and four assists.
Sandburg jumped to a 15-9 lead after a quarter and took a 30-21 advantage into halftime. The Chargers stretched their lead to 44-32 entering the fourth.
Kishwaukee’s (5-12, 0-1) Cesca Vardman led all players with 19 points.
Sandburg will play its first Arrowhead home game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Highland at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
